Got the car back from the panelbeaters, stopped them at the $2k mark - they were beginning to price new parts and settled with the guy, so the car now owes me very little. Going to chuck a new light in and see if I can persuade the panel back into shape and reattach the bumper where it came loose and drive it for a bit.
Had I pushed it down the insurance route I would have been up for a 'discussion' on a stripped out 26 yo pugs value vs repair costs & time yadayada with the 3rd parties insurance company and I didn't fancy my chances.

I couldn't find the SAD, (might be wrong on this) but I think it's stopped working at some point and been removed, tube into intake capped and the idle adjusted to compensate. Have turned down the idle/cruise control screw and will see if I can reach a happy medium between cold starting and not looking like a dick at traffic lights.

New fan switch off eBay seemed to fix full speed fan @ 70 and extended run on issue, now I only occasionally hear it at low speed after shutoff and the car seems happy.

hey amg_309  welcome to the fun world of french car ownership.  sux that your car got drivin into, i know how much of a pain it can be waiting for your car to get fixed.. hope it's back on the road soon..
hmm don't know if the car would run well with sad removed.. i have just been tinkering around on my 205 ,i assume they are in the same place as 309. i took out my battery and took off air flow meter to give me some wiggle room ..
