Hi Guys, I have just bought a 1997 Megane Coupe with the F7R engine with the intention of racing it in the 2KCup. Shes done 200,000 kms but still has what seems like a very strong engine. In fact I find it surprisingly quick for a little 2.0, both in a straight line and in the twisties.
Any way looking for the heads up for optimum wheel alignment settings for the track if anyone has set one up previously.

The car has new Koni Strts shocks and I will be putting new Dunlop Direzza 2's, 205 50 16's on it.

Any help appreciated from the cognoscenti appreciated.
Cheers

Welcome. Very interested to know how you get on because I had similar ideas a couple of years ago. I test drove one and found it surprisingly quick and agile but was outbid on the auction.

Welcome,

Good luck with it. be great to see a Renault out there! Like Pete I didn't get a shoe on on one a while back. It sure is a fun game to be in

Thanks guys.

Yes well I got very lucky in buying this car. It was listed for around $2500 3 or 4 months ago and got no takers. I just happened to look on line again without having looked in the Renault section for months, only to see it re-listed for $1800. I rang to see if he had been trying to sell it since I last saw it or if he had just re- listed. He told me he had just put it back on that day and he had 2 guys on their way around to look at it, so I jumped the gun and bought it then and there sight unseen. Had to bring it up from CHCH tho'. But for $1800 its a hell of a buy. It is in extremely good condition except for the drivers seat which would need recovering if it wasnt going to get swapped for a race seat.

If I could figure out how to post a pic I would. It looks great in yellow.

Alignment figures anyone?

What alignment adjustments are possible on it? For a lot of European cars (my BX included) you can only adjust toe-in (unless you get a bit creative with a port-a-power or something). I run about 2mm of toe-out, for what that's worth...

Well I managed to get the pics on Photo bucket but damned if I can see how you can export them to the FF web page. The problem of being on the wrong side of 50 and being techno challenged.

Mungous maybe your are right and only the toe out is adjustable, which obviously limits options. I'll have to check. Thanks.

Score!

Jelous much? Yes, yes I am.

I don't know if they are the same chassis setup as the Clio, but if so you will be able to adjsut the front toe - and that is it!

Unless you shim the rear. Again if it is anything like the quality of the Clio the rear toe needs to be corrected and go neutral or toe out depending on your prefferences. As much as I love my euros, both the Mazda Lantis and the Teg have rear toe adjustament which is awesome for fine tuning the car to how you like to drive.

Hey if your mum has one of these then she is pretty hip. They certainly have plenty of mid range punch from about 3500 rpm. More than what most mums would want....

I have a new set of Direzza 205 50 16's arriving tomorrow, to be fitted to a set of lightweight Enkei 5 spoke alloys. Won an auction for an OMP BIG seat today on TM, and it is being fitted tomorrow. Have ordered a set of Tarox pads, braided SS lines and K&N filter from England. Bank account is taking a beating but all needs to be done to give it a chance against the multitude of Hondas and of course the 205's. What time would any of you 2Kcup guys think this would be capable of with a hot peddler behind the wheel?

You've really just got to try to catch me!   ;D

Forget about trying to catch the fast group - the Tegs are just too quick out of the box.  I usually get into the back end of the quick group with about a 1.26 around Hampton Downs - my car has a good power to weight ratio, but poor torque and rubbish handling.  You should be able to get pretty close to me: http://www.zeperfs.com/en/duel919-446.htm

Damn, I was hoping it might be a bit more competitive than that. Well I have Mike Eady going to take it for a spin this Tuesday without the good picks installed, but with the new rubber. It will be interesting to see what he can do.

So how does the 205 beat the Tegs? Light weight?

Well my car is not short on torque and I think it handles ok. Haven't really pushed it yet as I want to keep my licence.

I'll just have to do my best to see if I can keep your exhaust pipe in my sights.  ;D
