Hey Yo All. Dave here.

Years ago I had a Phase1 306S16 that I loved and trashed. The hot hatch bug remained and now I get a chance to scratch the itch again. This time with far more auto know how and some actual spare cash for late night irrational purchases.

I lucked upon this little S1 106Xsi on trademe. Moved fast. Got lucky. FOMO and YOLO so they say. Picked it up off a nice enough guy that let it sit for far too long. Rego lapsed after he failed to put on hold again...

Seems straight enough apart from the typical 106 door fold. Was completely dead so trailered it home, put a new battery in and it fired right up! Runs and drives surprisingly well given the time it was sitting. Also needed a wash as it was starting to appear more green than white...

My aim is to have a nice fun unsuspecting road car for semi daily urban assault missions and weekend back road explorations... I fondly remember overtaking V8s on the uphill outside lanes in my  S16... I love these things with their little lumpy 8v and no power steering. Real back to basics motoring.

But first up, get it back on the road, refreshed brakes, all fluids, check over belts, hoses etc to get it past compliance.

I would like to do some form of resto mod, but we shall see. I have wanted to play with one of these for a long time now so don't mind spending more time/money than sense on it.
In no particular order:

Upgrade brakes.
Tyres, T1R's or similar.
New hose kits, belts and pumps etc.
GroupN mounts all round.
And probably break into the engine to see whats up, resulting in new seals, HGs etc...Hopefully not a full rebuild, but then again, fast road cam maybe?

Does anyone know any history of this particular car?

MYRUSH

Haha you beat me to it! I was going to buy that thing for parts but im glad it's going to someone who is going to get her back on the road. Not many xsi 1.6s around now, I've got 2 and im also currently restoring one of them too.
I remember selling a speedo cable and quarter glass for this car.
I've also got a spare drivers door with no creasing if you are after one.

I'm happy I got the chance to get this back on the road. I believe its savable. Kinda happy its not being used as a parts car.

I also got the speedo cable with this, he never got around to installing it, so that's a first job to do. I also saw a bit of glass evidence in the back so not surprised there either. Did you also sell him a bonnet?

Is yer door white? I might take you up on that, I kind of want to keep the paint as original as possible. for now.  If you have any other parts tips/suppliers/upgrades feel free to share, will be needing some very soon.

MYRUSH

Nah no bonnets sold. Do you have a spare bonnet?
The door I have is red, send me a PM if you are keen.
For parts, 106parts.com is your best friend for cheap genuine Peugeot parts, they just about have everything you need, use the 10% discount code too.

Ok thanks, yes been scouring that site already. Is it worth exploring Yousend or just what they quote? Might have a dig around for exchange rates too.
Any performance type parts sites of recommendations?

Yeah I have a spare bonnet now. A couple small dints but straight. I have no need for it(hopefully) if anyone wants it.

Keen to get this thing up and running now...

MYRUSH

They have very reasonable shipping rates.
For performance parts, demon tweeks have the usual upgrade parts
I could be interested in a bonnet depending on how it looks, my red 106 could do with a new one at some point in time.

Hey all again,
Have spent some time stripping into his car and now have a massive list of to do's and to buy's.

Is anyone wrecking a 106 or have stuff kicking about?

Also.  Doe anyone know a best place to get a replacement windshield from?

MYRUSH

I have a few bits leftover from one that stripped for parts
Theres the silver one on TradeMe but his prices are unrealistic
Theres also a guy I know parting one as well but he is down in Te Awamutu.

All of which are XSi's

Pretty much any auto glass place should be able to get a new screen. I recently got a new one for my 205 - was about $400 fitted.

Thanks guys, I'll book in a windscreen guy next week and hope for no cans of rusty worms.

Might have to hit you up for the wrecker contacts there... and see what you have left... headlight adjusters? Door hinge stops? Oem gearknobs? RadHoses?
Always up for a roadtrip through the waikato as needed.

Still undecided whether to return this to road trim or start down the race car path

About time for an update. Im slack at this because posting photos always gets me in a twist.

I have spent some time indeed tinkering with getting this lil thing back on the road. Has been a fun adventure with very little left to do, but I was slightly sidetracked with a new jeep as my daily.

Have to date:

Pulled windscreen, rust repairs and replacement screen.
Cleaned up all scuppering, rubber, seals, wipers, new blades etc.
Replaced top rad/oilcooler hose with silicone one.
New front rotors. Ferodos in transit.
Replaced Bonnet with straighter one.
Full fluids flush.
Restored and paint matched wheels. They were well messed up. Dont hate on the white too much I think it sets the car off.
Paneled the folded door, (nice from far far from nice) and popped a couple of other dents.
Full cut and polish.
Cleaned up all plastic trim, with continued coats of old engine oil to try get them black again.
All new Dunlop zii tyres.

Now all that is needed is put in the new speedo sensor that was messed up, replace the speedo cable that was supposedly broken but actually fine.  >:(  Reinstall all interior and get it complied.

nomadave

Err sorry for the mahoosive pics. noob here.

Next up on this thing after compliance will be driving it! lots.
then hopefully upgraded suspension, lowered slightly and new bushes all round.

Also, anyone have any ideas for upgraded interior? the seats in these are less than desirable.....

2052NV

you might be able to find 206 gti seats which are pretty supportive but they weigh a tonne.

Or bite the bullet buy some seat brackets and pick up an out of date race seat for cheap for max fast driving comfort

Mungous

Coincidentally, I may know where you could find an entire Saxo VTS interior...
