206gti full of problems
« on: September 10, 2017, 01:16:20 PM »
Hi all,
Purchased this car about 2 months ago for my girlfriend.

I'm a bit of a car guy and have tinkered but this is the first time trying one of these French cars.

Onto the bad stuff.
The airbag light comes on intermittently. After a quick Google tells me the connector under the seat or the harness inside the steering.
The connector under the seat has been removed and soldered by a previous owner.

There is a pollution fault that also pops up intermittently. I'd assume this is because the previous owner replaced the original exhaust with something terrible. Need to get it on the hoist and have a look.

It doesn't like cold mornings. Hunting idle and sometimes goes into limp home mode.

There are also other hideous aesthetic modifications that will be fixed. (Red mud flaps, red grill on the bonnet, red calipers)

Any suggestions on where to get it scanned in Hamilton? Or suggestions on which scan tool/software to get.

The anti pollution fault is a royal PITA. I tried everything to get rid of it. It's common as muck with these things. Too much town driving makes the valves stick open a tiny amount, so the seals may need replacing. I swapped out the a/f sensors, used valve cleaner, flushed the oil, bloody everything, nothing. Just put up with it. Hated that car.

Both of those problems are super common in my experience. What year model is it?
That engine fault code sounds exactly like our 2002 model 206. Hunts on idle when it's cold and throws a fault code now and then. I am told it needs a new coil pack, but it's yet to get one because it's my daily and i have zero cares for it.

Scan tool will be able to tell you which airbag/cable is faulting
