I was under the impression that 205s were prefered for PROPER racing as they were twitchier than the 309s, and it was just road cars that you put 309 beams on - for stability.

A driver in a race situation wants to flick the tail around, hence you want the thicker torsion bars but NOT the wider track of the 309 beam.
