Title: Sup- smilie filled post
Post by: Raikyn on September 10, 2007, 08:39:21 PM
Hello all  :)

Just purchased a 205 Gti today, looks like some of you already know of it ;)

1990 Silver, twin carbs, dodgy tail lights, 17's
Just found out the alternator looks to be dodgy :(
Probably be looking to make it a little more standard eventually, with factory 15's , normal looking ass, and might need to tone down the exhaust a little. Seems to be fairly good otherwise.  ;D

Anyone know a good source for tuning twin carbs?

All in all happy so far with the purchase. Get the alternator/battery sorted and it'll be sweet. I'll wait for the second week for the frustrations to set in  ::)   ;D

Are you in Aucklandtown? If so then look up 'Carb Specs' in Carlton Gore Road, Newmarket, you can't go past these guys they are the best around

$3700
Has a stuffed alternator, just waiting to source another. Might need a bit of a tune up as well.
First thing after that will be to replace those tail lights, would be embarrassing to drive with those things on ;)

Hastings, sunny Hawkes Bay. Don't have to worry much about a leaky roof ;)

And if it does leak, I've plenty of experience as my 300zx drips on my right leg when it rains. Chinese water torture while driving  :o

Maybe there's a leak in the hull?

Jetboats are remarkable quick nimble piece of equipment. I'm glad you've likened my equally quick and nimble 300zx to one. I'm honoured.

Jet boats are also complicated and expensive to fix. Sound familiar ;D

Putting one of those on a Pug would really make you understand why Japanese cars suck ass.

There might be something not quite right here. It's pulls hard up to about 4500-5000 then runs out of puff. Doesn't seem to go above 5500 either, does it have a rev-limiter?

What should a 1.9 pug engine rev to?

One of the cylinders is turning the spark plugs black as well.
Oh well totally refurbished alternator is now in, all electrical problems gone :)

Changed spark plugs to new NGK BCRP6ES, with about a .88 mm gap. Should replace the leads as well.

I should put a disclaimer here. I have absolutely no experience with the mechanical side of cars. Even changing the plugs was a first for me.

Redline is 6k - but they run out of puff at about 5200rpm. No point going higher.

well, I would be using 45's for a start

40s are good for a 1.6

Seems to be running alright at the moment, so I think I'll leave the engine for a month or two. I bought a smaller car so I didn't spend money all the time on it.

Handling seems very good. It's running on 205 17's now, but I'm looking to go back to factory wheels. Will there be much difference in handling?

Also what's on the factory exhaust? Cats, muffler, resonator? Amd what size is the pipe? I'm trying to figure out how much has been done to the car.

I had a 205 on 17"s a while ago and quite frankly I didnt like the handling at all, was all heavy and had lost all its nimbleness

Show me a picture of exhaust!! Do you want a standard one??

After looking more closely I think mine maybe standard.
One dodgy under car picture.

I presume the big empty space on the right should be where the spare should go?

What kind of tyres are those?
Title: Re: Sup- smilie filled post
Post by: Raikyn on September 20, 2007, 06:49:50 PM
Some kind of budget no-names.

Wanli is the name on the side. Looks to be chinese.
Young guys buy bigger, wider wheels, then procede to put the shittiest, cheapest rubber on them  ::)

I always make sure I put decent rubber on when buying tyres. Most important part really.

Depends how you drive it I guess...

When I use driving for 20 mins daily to get to work and back I used about a tank a week of 98.
