Hi guys just wanted to say hello from Nelson

I don't actually own a Peugeot at the moment, but I have owned one in the past and wouldn't mind owning another one. I'm currently looking on Trademe for one. My previous Peugeot was a 406 diesel station wagon. I used that car to drive all around Europe and it was a great car. We already have a station wagon so this time i'm looking for a smaller hatch back I have my eye on either a 205 Gti or a 306 Gti-6. Both seem like really nice hatchbacks. Hard to tell which would be a more enjoyable car to own. I'll have to test drive both I guess. I do have a wee baby that will need to be taken around a bit. So the 306 seems like the option with more safety features. I'll read my way through the post on here to see what advice you guys have.

Hi and welcome.

306 GTI-6 sounds like a good choice, a member has one for sale at a good price.

Oh cool. I guess I'll wait till the for sale section gets unlocked for me. I was thinking the gti6 was the better option as well.

Hello mate, Yes a GTI-6 is a much nicer everyday day and has a LITTLE more room for kids in the back spec. But also alot of fun when you wantt o go for a hoon. And they are pretty darn affordable atm.

OK i'm convinced. I found this example on Trademe http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=607763117 (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=607763117) I think I will have a look at it when i'm in Wellington next month (if it hasn't sold). Seems pretty good as it has quite low km's.

This is the one that member is selling:

Seems like a good deal, just needs that dent fixed, would be a hundred dollars with the dent Magician.

If it were my family I would be looking at something like this, they are much safer cars and a better drive too boot!

Hehe... I know what i'm about to say is a bit of a lame reason and is also totally subjective, but to me I really prefer the look of the 306 to the Renault Clio. I just love the way the boot on the 306 (and the 205) is cut off and makes the car look like it's nice and squat over it's rear wheels. It's a beautiful car design.

Fully agree, the 306 is a beautiful car inside and out, the Clio is more substance over style.

Just threw the Reno in there as an alternative as you mentioned safety of your family and Renault build very safe cars  ;)

If a 205 GTI still takes your fancy, take a look at mine in the Peugeot project folder, page 2 under 205 GTI + Link ECU.  I'm intending to put the car on trademe soon.  PM me if you are interested.

That is an amazing example of a 205 GTI! Time to see if I can stretch the budget!

Welcome! I can recommend both, though I'd say with family a consideration the relative comfort and safety of the 306 makes it the better choice. Good luck finding one (shouldn't be too hard there have been quite a few on the market recently).

Yeah i've got a couple of cars i'd like to check out. Cynic sent me some details of his car which is the most amazing condition 205 gti (only 50k on the clock). Pretty much my dream car but it's a little out of my price range. I'm sure some lucky fast frog member will snap it up. The other car i'm hoping to take a look at is a 306 Gti-6 in Wellington which is closer to what I can afford to spend. It's done 120km and appears mechanically sound from the description. But has some clear coat peeling on the roof and bonnet. Is that an easy repair? I'm guessing it probably means a respray for those panels. You are right there have been a few 306 Gti-6 listed on Trademe over the last wee while so no rush to buy the first thing i see listed.
