Title: Yet another new RS Member
Post by: Gordini on August 08, 2013, 10:18:44 PM
I am finally returning to the Renault family after some 25 years driving other cars. My first ever car was a Renault 6 that my Dad bought for me when I was at university; but my relationship with Renault goes back a lot further than that. My Dad was a Renault fanatic, owning 4's,5's, 6's, 8's, 16's 17's - over the years. He even entered an R4 (Roho) in the East African Safari in the late 60's (I think) and finished second in his class. My favourite though was his track car - a Renault 8 Gordini. He even got close to buying me one once but it was a bit on the expensive side.

On 15 Sep 2012 I test drove an RS 265 and six months later (pretty much to the hour) on 15 March, I put down a deposit on an RS 265 Cup, followed four months later by delivery of the car on July 12th

I like Renault NZ's a la carte offering that effectively allows you to spec the car as you want.  My chosen spec was

RS265 Cup with
Sirius Yellow
Cloth Recaro Seats (which give me the yellow interior details as opposed to the red that is standard in the Cup)
Panoramic Roof
Xenon Headlights
Front Parking Sensors

There are a couple of 205 GTI's around my way (has to be one of best looking car's ever) as well as a couple of RS Clio's and RS Meg II's as well
Great to see so a local home for the many French car enthusiasts in NZ.

Hopefully I haven't gone overboard with the pics  :-[

Fantistic looking car, I concur on the perfect spec. If I had the coinage that is how I would order a RS265.

Thanks everyone for the friendly greeting and words of approval.  I really couldn't be happier and feel very fortunate to own one.

Decided not to go for 'show' items like 19" wheels and leather upholstery.  The Liquid/Sirius Yelllow paint was a must though (even my partner reckons a fast Renault needs to be yellow) and opted for the panoramic roof because I liked the contrast with the yellow and the fact that it could lift the interior and make it a bit more 'airy'.

Haven't pushed her too hard yet - probably no more than 4.5k revs - but have only done 700kms so far, a lot of which has been the rush hour grind.  Plus it's literally impossible with the 50km/h and 100km/h speed limits - you have to back off before you even get started...

1,000 kms according to the vague manual, which says not much more than do not exceed 3,500rpm in any gear or 130km/h max speed.

I stuck to the 3,500 rpm limit for the first 500kms and then worked my way up to o 4,500rpm and will now start going up to 5 then 5,5 for the last couple of hundred kms.  Have also been mindful of not labouring the engine and trying to vary the rpm as much as possible within the given range, oh and not pushing at all until oil temp is around the 85 degrees celsius mark.

Come and run it in at Hamptons on the 1st September  :o. Then you can meet the old R8 Gordini.
