Title: Newbie from Auckland
Post by: sp1ked on May 28, 2014, 12:08:39 PM
Hey guys. I'm looking to join the Mad Dog Racing guys in the 2014/2015 2k Cup season with a 205GTI. Really enjoyed watching them hoon around in what is a very cool little car. No GTI's on Trademe at the moment so if you know of any that would be suitable for the 2KCup let me know. Cheers.

Someone on frogs just posted this

Looks like too nice condition to race but it's a 205gti!

A 1.6 will be a bit of a disadvantage.

Not so much if you race in the 1.6 class!

1.6 isn't that much slower than the 1.9

0-100km is the same as a 1.9

And the 205 doing well at the moment isn't at the pointy end of the field because it's a BHP monster...

Wow. I've been told by the Mad Dog guys you all really know you're stuff. Thanks for the information. The owner of the 1.6 answered a few questions for me too so I'm now thinking maybe the 1.6 is a go.

I kinda agree with the 1.6 idea. But in respect of this particular car I also kinda agree with 2052NV:

+1
A Phase1 1.6GTI in good condition has got to be worth keeping original.

Isn't it a $2000 limit also?

There is however from what I understand if a model is accepted in the series already you can pay more. I would be checking with the 2K organiser before I did anything.

+1 on the 1.6 being too nice to race if it's in great condition. They get a real beating on the track and I want to put a half cage with harness bar in whatever car I get. Wouldn't want to mess with a really nice interior.

Yes there most certainly is. Checked out my understanding and nope, got to be $2k or under.

That thing says 8.7 for 1.6 compared to 7.8 for 1.9. Non-evo T16 is same as 1.9 GTI ??? Bugger.

^Yes, sorry. Im blind as a bat and looking at wrong columns. Guess the 1.9 and Turbo have the same 0-100 due to gear ratios?
