Just had to come straight home and tell you all....
I'm sure most of you are aware of my predicament after my rolling of my dear 172. I've been searching ever since, and i got emailed yesterday by a dealer who saw my 'wanted' ad. He'd just come into possession of a Black 2003 RS 172 with 25,000km on the clock (YES 25K ) which he was preparing for sale and thought I might be interested. It was sold new from Renault Galerie as well. Obviously I was, and I took it for a drive this morning, and promptly placed a deposit on it. He's going to touch up a few stone chips, and put it in for a Renault servicing at Archibald & Shorters for the price. It does have the slightly ugly Remus double exhaust on it, so I may return to stock in time, but I'm just happy to end up in a fast frog again...
No pics yet, but they will follow in good time...
I'm so happy!!
Rob
Good man that's awesome! Well done!
Good shit, black will look deadly.
Does this one have Electronic Stability Control or some kind of a "you're driving funny "warning system?
Good to hear :) Now make sure you keep this one shiny side up :)

ESP doesn't work so well when all four wheels are in the air....l:-D
I shall endeavour to keep this one right way up. I can't handle the stress of driving a 4 speed automatic for several months again.
I'm thinking Gunmetal or Black 16" Alloys...
did you get your other wreck for parts?
No. It was sold. I didn't think I'd be able to get another one, so I never bothered.
good stuff,
another 75k on the clock and it will be run in.
Hmmm low kays and remus twin exhaust - wonder if it's the one that we looked at before getting ours - a guy on Waiheke owned it and it never got used as it stayed this side of the water.
Can't say I'm a fan of the exhaust either
So glad you found one

RS's are built Ford Tough! Mine feels tight like a tiger at 70odd.
Yea, long story but she brought a rally drive day package for he husband and he nnver used it so she took it. Fast as in her 1.4 Nissan Pulsar now.
I want to do one if anyone is keen, its bloody expensive though.
Piss off with your "Rally Drivers Best Drivers" wind up! The Girl Racer Vid showes what its like is all..minus the hotness women.
If my sister was on that show I would wish I had grown up in Waiuku. Annette is my fave, Google her at your own peril, especially her FHM shoot. Mmmmmm.
I would be keen to do that rally School, im pushing for combined Christmas and birthday presents from the old lady like I did for a Transformer toy as a 5 year old.
^^ lol looks mean though. i would be keen forthe one day course front wheel drive!

Maybe we should block book a fast frogs corporate event and see if we could get a discount...

My new RS. It drives very well, certainly am happy with the purchase. Drove it back from Henderson behind a Maserati Quattroporte 4.7 GT-S. It's Exhaust note made everyone within 100m of it inadequate. My Remus exhaust is quite loud compared to stock, but nothing compared to the crackling vocals from the Mazza... To be honest i can see myself changing the exhaust at some point, I envisage it becoming cop/racer bait because it is pretty obvious.. ktec stealth II/stock is more my style, but I'd have been foolish to not buy the car cos of the exhaust..
Wow nice car! You've done exceptionally well! Exhausts look like handlebars
Whats the plans for it?
Well done. That is one big zahst.
You coming on Auckland fastmeat?
Nize. Looks luvly. Noice purchase.

I plan to put some black/gunmetal 15/16" alloys on it. I love BBS but they're bloody expensive. These are some ideas so far

I don't know about white, but it was a thought.
Thinking about coming to the fast gathering, will see what shift I'm on that day when roster comes out tomorrow.
2nd set down plz and darkest legal tints
I like the last ones but in Brawn yellow and all badges must match wheels.

So does Ohlsen have them for sale or did you buy off ktec website then take it there.
Imported it through one of the guys when RG still existed. One of the mechanics was importing stuff. Fitted it myself - all good - then RG tried to shift it to align it better - FAIL. created leaks etc.
Basically Ohlsen took it apart cleaned it up (all the sealent gunk) put in new sections where needed putting in a propper joint. so its the Stealth as far as the mufflers are concerned - but that's about it!
In all honesty I would probably just go to him and get an exhaust made from scratch. That or buy mine for a tidy sum and I'll get another one made - although the wife would probably kill me given I just spent 500 on new springs for it!
I'm planning a small parts run from ktec when I next take a holiday, and using my cargo concessions/checked baggage to get it back.
I guess what I am trying to say is the quality is naf - I wouldn't bother. I don't like exhausts with slip joints.

Hmm - remember bad things about those being spoken about on cliosport too :-\ bad welds or something.
Personally I would go custom with Ohlsen Developments. Save the luggage space/weight for some carbon splitters (hint, hint)
congrats on your new purchase. thought i saw it on the southern yesterday arvo on the downhill run to takanini, but this one didnt have the massive exhaust and was driven by an older bloke with a somewhat large head.
black wheels
change crimezaust
win
his head was probable normal sized, the clio makes anyone look huge.
Got a quote of $1350 + fitting for a Milltek catback exhaust, just awaiting another quote from the guys that did the 'RG' exhaust kit for Renault Galerie.
I'm still not convinced by the look of the remus, but I have to say I do like the crackle of the remus exhaust when you take your foot off the gas. I've found my window down a touch far more than I used to. I got my first chance to really test it out on the way to work today and the vvt seems particularly strong and the exhaust does come on song once you're well underway, although maybe a little bassy for some tastes at lower speeds. On a short piece of unnamed road I could just scrape 100kph in my old 172 before having to brake to turn into another road, but today I hit a chunk more than that before I realized it was going much faster than I expected and slowed down. I may get it dynoed as I suspect it may also be chipped.
Err learn from my $1600 mild steel mistake - don't get a custom one made at prestige. It broke twice - I put it out for curbside collection in less than 6 months. Also all the sparks/grinding metal left marks all over the rear window.
Even the one they actually made for RG had issues - I know a guy who took it back three times when the center section kept failing - RG had to cover it under warranty.
My center section failed first then the it craked before the rear muffler.
I will NEVER go back.
Why not just put to droopy tips on it to hide those big ones and save the money for beer.
Will be interesting to see if it has been chipped, do you have a stock run for comparison Rolly??
Well, I've got a stock ECU run with my ktec exhaust both from Torque Performance and my RSTuner datalogger.
Stock tunes are pretty easy to spot as they are very peaky - feels like a 5k vtec kick. it's actually ecu limited for emissions regs.
Mine now feels very flat by comparison - pretty much a solid pull from 3500rpm.

Yeah that's a thought, the quotes for a full system were too high for me to bother for the time being - especially given that I want wheels as well. I may just have to put up with it for the meantime.
Just realized now as i got out of the car that this RS has an ESP button, my last one didn't ( ;DLOL)
As for dyno testing, apparently there's a well known Nissan tuner in Sylvia Park with one that my friend uses for his 700bhp skyline, so I think that's the easiest to get to. Will get a quote for just a power run.
You could just wait for a Dyno day unless you're keen as, on a dyno day its considerably cheaper.. Will update here if I hear of any.
Whatever you do pick a place and stick with it, the variation between places is huge (upto 20kwatw) so if you are dynoing and re dynoing to see what you have gained it can be confusing.
If we had enough keen members I could organise one. Would want 20 cars though :)
I'm in...missed the last one
^Does that include the tuning part or is it just dyno use?
That guy from the last one reckoned 400 squids to get my car to stop running rich :o
I guess if you had aftermarket management all you'd need is a laptop or summat
For RS renaults buy your own tuner/diagnosis/datalogger for relatively peanuts.
www.fastchip.nl
Yes I can vouch for it - as I have one. Totally repeatable dynp plot - excellent maps with the option of custom tunes. Clear and get error codes, as well as data logging which can be overlaid as subtitles on a video.
And to think you can have all this landed for less than $500. As long as you have a laptop and can use it your sussed. That is at least 1/3 the cost of a custom tune here in NZ and that's all you get - a custom tune.
Tis good to be an RS owner ;D
