Just moved to auckland and looking for something cool, old and euro! My last 3 cars have been E30s - this time I want something different.
I saw an awesome white 205 the other day on the motorway (2052NV) with a fastfrogs sticker, thats what brings me here.
Look forward to being able to see the rest of the forum.
Cheers.
Glad you could join us.
Anything cool, old and euro in particular?
Good call Tastic! Welcome to Fast Frogs.
If you can handle a E30 you qualify for French car ownership.
Welcome mate! :)
205's are good fun, like oversized go karts :D
Ohai Graham!

As for as French cars go I'd like a 205gti. Can't see any on trademe. What else is french, oldish, cool and euro?
Otherwise mk1 / mk2 golf, e28, e34, 2002, mk2 escort (ok escorts arent euro). Basically anything with a square grill and round headlights now I think about it. :P
correct me if im wrong but thought escorts were english?
some pretty good choices there. there is a mk1 golf gti on tm at the moment but if you have some mech know how there is a renault 5 gt turbo that needs a head gasket.
i desperately want both but would be nice to at least see someone on here get em
also welcome man!!
Holy wow, I've been scanning trademe all night and never saw that gti as it does not contain the word 'golf' anywhere in the auction.
re Escorts; I don't really know tbh I just think they are cool.
Thanks for the welcome :)
Forgot to mention it but the car I REALLY want is a VW type 3 squareback! But they are hard to find.
Buying a 205 GTI can be frustrating - some weeks there'll be 5 on TradeMe at the same time, and other times, it can go for months without one coming up. Good GTIs come to those who wait. I'm impatient so bought my second 205 GTI within a few weeks of the first. :D
british cars aren't usually seen as euro. they're a failure waiting to happen all on their own!
lush.
get this

or this, and ooze style
LOL. First one made me giggle. 2nd one looks like an overpriced shitheap
Going to check out the mk1 gti tomorrow night :D
I can't speak for the Dauphine but the d-super isn't actually a bad buy as it sits.
lol
I guess old, french and cool are different thigns to different people hah
welcome. springs in boot when you get the mk1 please.
Theres a 205 gti here

This thing is fast. Waisted the Megane at Mermererere http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Volkswagen/golf/auction-271948697.htm
^ Have it watchlisted. Wonder what the reserve is? Cool car

yeah man good stuff - that golf looks mint but be careful i have heard that the current owner has been fanging it everywhere ant it was really mint before he got his hands on it so maybe a little neglegted
still though looks pretty good and they are generally bulletproof

Accept the truth. Hah ;D
4bie - Never passed a warrant first time. Cost me thousands upon thousands to get it to it's current state... which isn't really that great. So unreliable I bought a japper.
Trumper - since I've owned it, it's only needed a wheel bearing adjusting for the first wof I had done. 15 mins labour.
Also. British. I rest my case ;D

Ahhh, the Saggy-Arse
Don Simon built that when he lived in jolly old England. I hear tell that the louvres on the front fenders don't go anywhere because after they proved to throw stones at the windscreen at 5674856478 miles an hour they had to block them up. :D
Me old man has a trumpy spitfire which we took in the narva targa tour, great little car, bulletproof toaster sized engine (apart from the headgasket)
They made some pretty good cars really, but I still reckon the answer to all of its problems lie in a 4AGE!
I mean, look at all the best Trumpy's, they all have an engine out of something else :D Especially the stags, those v8's were so pooos

Thanks for the heads up. I'll be having a good look for rust too as it spent 8 years in england.
^Salted road = Fail.

Think the design was okay, quite advanced for it's time. Just poorly executed. Apparantly it's very common to find sand in the cooland channels from the casting process :o
They just have such a bad rep eh!! Ive only ever seen one stag that had the original trumpy engine in it and as a result it was selling for about half the price they normally go for :-\
Rover 3.5l V8 ftw
Would love a rover V8 in my trumper.
That TVR would be a real mish to polish, look at all those vents.
Do not want.
Aston Martin anyday.
Oh and also, welcome to fastfrogs.
The threads often get away on us. So does the phrase 'get away on us/him/her/it/me/them'
Brilliant thing about that TVR. 50k pounds new. Can get one from Ebay UK for 35k quid. Thats about 80,000NZD. Not bad considering it's performance

Just have to put up with shit yellow spec interior.
Also. Welcome to Fast Frogs, hope you end up actually getting a frencher :D

Looked at a Trumpy once that had a 427 chev v8 in it... guy was moving to OZ and couldn't take it cause they had had to re-engineer the front chassis rails!
ah the joys of a colour blind 1st owner.. wtf is with the yellow int on a red car???
did read along the way about a footie fan ordering one in his team colours which were purple and yellow..

Roof hump is helmet clearance for the driver :)
Sagarises are awesome... want one so bad, but couldn't afford to run one. Until recently you couldn't bring them into NZ anyway, and you've still got to jump through SEVERAL hoops to get one in (even if coming through an SIV). They're also very fragile without much of an infrastructure here to keep them running which is a shame as they're brilliant hooligan-style fun.
I know most of the TVR owners around the Auckland area and hang out with the club on occasion, and have done for years. They generally let me tag along in my other British piece of shit when it's working.
I'd go for the 205 over the Golf any day. Although either one is cool.
^I would still get one in anyway. I'm determined to own one at some point. Or a Caterham R500/non-supercharged Levante (Supercharged would be the coolest thing in the world but they only made 8)
205 gti was bought out to beat the mk ii golf gti and it did but then vw bought out the mk ii 16valve and they were pretty similar.
i think the 205 gti is a better car than all of them in my opinion but id have to say i really like the mk i golf gti. very few around
Well I've never driven any, but in looks alone it goes mk1 > 205 > mk2 for me.
btw the guy with the mk1 on tm bailed on me tonight so no goss.
personal opinion but id rathr have a mk1 golf over mk1 205. definatly wank factor. same with the first of every car tho.

yes but when you "put a mi in it" you will have even engines and i think the 205 would come out on top :P

I'd take the 1.9 205 GTI over a Golf GTI anyday's of the week, preferable a Saturday or Sunday as I would need to take time off if was during the week.
^ :D
