Title: Young'n with a 405 mi16
Post by: treggo on November 01, 2011, 02:34:46 PM
Hello,

My name is Matt, I recently purchased a 405 mi16 that has passed through some hands on here (CaM) and am looking forward to jumping head first into the life of being a french car owner..

I already know a few of you guys, so hopefully I will fit in!

Am looking forward to learning how to fix all the broken shit on it. ha

Before you do that. Just be weary that it's about $450 in parts to do the tensioners/belt and pump. I have a thread on it in the cit forum I think?

If you know an engineer or somesuch they may be able to re-build your tenioners for cheap. Those are the spensy bits.

From that thread

QuoteCambelt and Tensioners from BNT - $265.46 excl

Waterpump and seals from EML - approx $120 excl

I got cam and crank seals at the same time. Think the w/pump was about $75 excl

if you do it, lemme know and I'll jack the bits up for you bud. I've got a belt and tensioners in stock at home. probably got a water pump too. che.

as for rebuilding tensioners: I've studied them and, bugger that.
better living errone

Just a little advice, if you don't know the condition of the cam belt - do it now!  They go ping and so do your valves, no warning.  Mine did just before I was going to replace it of course.......  Cheaper to do preventative maintenance than rebuild head!.
