Title: s16 purchase
Post by: frasereat on October 22, 2009, 08:16:53 PM
Just got a cheap s16 for run about, and have joined up here to look for hints/tips on tidying it up as its not a minter.
Runs nice, long drive home from where brought and very impressed with power and road holding.
Has a factory alpine 7513 stereo, have the code but don't know how to input it, any ideas? don't want to replace as budget does not allow.

Welcome to the site, nice car for a daily runner.
I'd try google for your stereo, there's bound to be something out there on it, specially if you've got the code already.
Cheers.

in my experience (which aint much) with factory alpine units, leave it switched off when you put the key in the ignition. then you use the station preset buttons, usually 1-6, to enter the code and ta dah. hope that works/helps. congrats on your purchase and welcome :)

thanks for the warm welcome, spent hours on google, have tried inputting code like that, i assume you have to either push another button to enter i guess there is a possibility that the stereo is knackered, no matter, quite enjoy the sound of the car.
Heater has been bypassed, from research heater matrix blockages seem common, how easy is this to replace?
Common things be great thanks drtdvl.

if heater is like mine, ITS A BASTARD. Sorry, but they are made left hand drive, so us folk have all the steering stuff in the way. You have to shift the steerign column out the way, and its still an upside down, no room, tight as fark, absolute bastard. Its probably full of crap and needs cleaning, got mine out and back in in a day, but dont do what i did and not put the bonnet pull cable back in the right place before reassembling EVERYTHING.Sorry dad!!!! ANyway, welcome along, lots of good folk around here, penty of info, and oh, should have bought a 16v ;D

great info thanks,
have found a webpage documenting the matrix, looks easy enough but pretty time consuming.
will have a look at those vac pods, where do you recommend buying them from? have what i think is a rattly sounding exhaust that i think i'll tackle this weekend, is that a common thing?

my saxo has a rattly exhaust too. was told on inspection that the cat internals had blown into the resonator. maybe just check if your cat converter is situated in front of the resonator - then you may have the same problem. otherwise it may just be a loose baffle or could even be a loose heat shield.

i took mine to pitstop and the put her on the lifts and had a look at it for free.
