Title: New kid on the block.
Post by: Taylord on February 19, 2013, 12:27:28 AM
Hey guys, I'm 18 years of age and just purchased my second car....a 205 gti.

Gunmetal grey, sunroof. What more can i say. A truly proud moment purchasing one of these classics, and a minter at that. Fresh coat of paint, new clutch, interior trims nearly perfect (bar a typical dash crack which I'm working on...)

Future plans:
- phase 2 tail lights
- new dash surround
- SL434 alloys (silver)
- new struts/slightly lowered

NB: does anyone know how I could source some SL434's in NZ? Or will I have to look overseas?

Any help will be much appreciated!

Taylor

Edit: haven't quite Sussed how to link from photo bucket, photos are uploaded but iPad is somewhat confusing...will try tomorrow.

Welcome along.

No idea where to get sl434s in nz but there is a thread about it somewhere on here!

Cheers Cam! I've just contacted Neil Allen Motorsport in Auckland as I was told he is a supplier but am awaiting a reply. I'll keep hunting as I'm not in a rush, I may as well wear out the tread on the original alloys...

If you like, ask if he'll give a discount if you buy another four (in gunmetal). I've been meaning to get a set for a few years. I vaguely remember them being about $400 each.

Oh wow. Keen. I need to find pics of those wheels on blue and white GTIs to decide on colour now.

Can you refresh my memory of their width and offset?

Normal speed lines on the 1.9 are 15x6 with an et18 offset. SL434's are 15x6.75  with et08. Outer position of the wheel will extend an extra 20mm according to this  http://www.1010tires.com/wheeloffsetcalculator.asp .

I quite like the ones on the white car without the ribs. I wonder if they're a different model or he just ground them off.

Completely hypothetically, of course, would that price improve at all if one was to commit to a further set?

I'd assume so but not by much, maybe another 5 bucks or so off each wheel?
