Welcome along, good have a new convert! The French have made some great cars over the years, and the 205 GTI is right up there with the best. There's quite a few about in NZ, but they don't change hands that often.
I'd recommend an enthusiast owned car as generally any issues tend to get addressed properly. They're pretty simple cars, look out for bodged repairs and buy on overall condition - most things can be fixed, it's just time and money!

Don Simon on here is selling one at the moment - it's a sorted car and would be a good purchase if your budget stretches (prices for good cars have gone up quite a bit in last few years) https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/peugeot/auction-2024932535.htm

That'd be a nice base for a Maxi replica

Hey guys,

New here and new to the french car scene! Have always had an interest in Peugeots (205 GTI) and a slight change in circumstances has allowed me to start thinking about possibly getting into one. Would be open to advice of things to look out for when purchasing etc. Will also be having a look around to read up as much as I can myself.

Cheers :)

Introductions / Peugeot 306GTI ex 2KCUP
Last post by 306GTI - April 18, 2019, 11:00:31 AM
Hi team,

I have a friend who purchased a 306 GTI that's an ex 2KCUP car. Unfortunately, he hasn't had much luck in getting it going and to the track since he's had it because of electrical problems.

Personally, I have always worked with and raced Japanese cars (Honda's and Toyota's). That means a lot of this is pretty foreign to me including the look of the spark plugs that I pulled out.

Hopefully, some of you will be able to help me out when I make a later post. The goal is to get it up and running for a test day at Pukekohe.

Here are some pictures :)

It should be good - ride is surprisingly harsh on the 40 section tyre. I think if i can a set of Compomotive TH1680's and a 205/50 might be the solution later.

Nice :) I've had a gti180 as a daily for nearly a year, and touch wood had no issues so far. Enjoy ;)

Oh yeah and take it too the track for a day every so often, they're heaps of fun, they just love to rev.

Hi Guys,

Just picked myself up a gti180 as a new daily. Hopefully it treats me well. Grew up in the back of 504's, 505's, 306's and 405/406's as a kid - and learned to drive in a Renault 19.

Been a huge fan of the 206 since it joined the WRC as a kid - initially wanted a GTi-6 for a long term MAxi/Dimma project, but I am very happy with this car.

Aside from that, I'm a neurophysiology Honours student at Grafton.

Usually the first dash part to disintegrate - you'll be lucky to find a secondhand one that's undamaged being sold...
