Title: Thinking of getting a 306 Cab in Welly
Post by: dmanww on December 10, 2017, 11:50:24 PM
Hi guys,

Was walking down my street today and noticed a 306 cab in green with a green top. Never considered one before, but it looked great.

I'm now thinking of getting one in a couple months, but wanted to know how much trouble I would getting myself into.

It seems they are pretty rare in NZ. How hard is to keep them running?

Let me know you have any advice and if there is anyone in Welly I could talk to about them. Might be cool to take one for a drive to see what they are like.

Definitely fun cars in summer but can be a heart ache if you run into roof problems.
Check to see if all the windows go up and down without any hiccups.
Check the operation of the roof as well. You can do a lot of preventative work on the roof so it doesn't cause you any issues, i.e making extra cover plates so the roof doesn't snag on the hoses.
Check the frame of the roof for rust, check the condition of ALL the rubber seals
Check the visibility of the rear screen, drive it with the roof up and see how clear the rear screen is

Yeah I just saw your post about the stuck roof. Any luck with getting it sorted?

I guess I'd be keeping my subbie wagon at the same time just in case.

Never rely on a 20yo Frenchie as your daily!

Seriously though, 306s are typically fairly reliable. Parts that are common to hardtop cars are easy to get, and they aren't too bad to work on yourself. Lots of advice available on here too.

Good luck.  :D

I replaced the burst hose but the pump is getting no power at the moment, I'm probably missing something to get the system going again
