Title: Intro - fast and slow
Post by: xocet on January 27, 2016, 10:30:58 PM
Hi

A long time Wellington frogger who's only recently come across this site, having seen the web address on the back of a Peugeot I parked behind one fine, warm day round the bays in Wellington over the Christmas - New Year break.  These two follow on from a series of French and Italian vehicles I've owned.

The slow(er) one is a pale green LHD Dyane (ex Italy) which I've owned since the mid '80's.  It can go quick downhill and with a tail wind....

The quick(er) one has its engine and drive down the other end in the form of a silver Renault Alpine A310 V6 (also LHD).  I bought this whilst living in NL, and the car was shipped back to NZ in 2005.  I use both fairly regularly, the A310 periodically getting used for the daily commute from time to time (a good way to start and end the day!).

Hi and welcome

I saw your A310 one year driving into Southlands Museum, and I instantly fell in love, specially those awesome Gotti wheels.

Welcome,

I geuss if you had to drive it to and from work it would be alright. VERY nice indeed.

I'm quite partial to the GTA. Much of a community for them here?

Wow, that looks amazing, great subject + you or someone you know is pretty handy with a camera...

I've just moved back to Wellington (the Hutt truth be told - because that's where I can afford a big garage!), and am pretty keen to reinvigorate the fastfrogs community down here. Keep an eye out for an event or two - we'd love to have you come along and show off that A310 (or Dyane if you prefer).

I'd love to come along with either!

Camera work is all mine - cameras are another affliction of mine ....

As for GTAs, there are far more of them here.  They even pop up on TradeMe from time to time.  It's a bigger, heavier, slightly more refined car than the A310.  I'm not sure how many there are here, but I seem to recall they sold twenty or so new, plus there have been several imports.  Some have also left these shores.  The A610 is bigger & heavier still, and much faster.  Not sure that there are any in NZ. There are a few of the older A110s here, but prices for them have been on a sharp upward trajectory for a while now.

When I bought the A310, I'd looked around at a number of different marques, and different Alpine models (A110, A310/4 and A310/6 and both the NA and blown GTAs).  In the end it came down to a similar aged 911 or the 5 speed A310/6.  I found the A310 much better to drive, much more of a sports car, yet comfortable enough for a blast across Europe.  Also attracted less negative attention than the 911.  In France we got treated like royalty each time we went.

To the best of my knowledge, and that of others, mine is the only A310 V6 in the country.  There was nothing similar on the LTSA database when I registered it.  There is however a 4 cylinder A310 (ex-Switzerland I believe) being slowly recommissioned in Auckland.

Your cars look immaculate!!!

Thanks for the info on the 310/GTA/610. I might hold out for a RHD one since they were factory and sold here. Let me know if you hear of any going up for sale.

Thanks - they're not immaculate because they get used, just well looked after  ;)

I wouldn't dismiss the GTA being LHD - I think the driving position in the LHD version will be slightly better, since the off-set pedals in LHD mean the accelerator is more or less straight ahead, whereas on RHD it is offset by the wheel arch intrusion.

Welcome. I met you in 2010 at the end of Targa.

You took a few snaps of Donald's Alpine with my Megane RS.
