Title: Hello, new 306 owner
Post by: timbuchanan on July 21, 2008, 10:40:27 AM
Hello

I just bought a 1995 srdt 306 sedan

165km for $2700

Is this a good price?

I have read that these can possibly get 950km to a tank, but on my trip down from Chch to Dunedin i used half a tank for 350km. I have heard that its hard to fill them right up though, as i only put 42l in. Anyway it was a bit of a worry as I bought it because it would be efficient!

Also the battery seems to be fairly dead, what size/make do you recommend?

700k off a full tank is awesome economy! us petrollers are using a tank for 4-500ks  :P

20l for 350k is pretty sweet economy.
all pugs/citroens seem to be a pain in the arse to fill.

yes but its apperantly a 60l tank, so would be only 8.5l/100km

you wont need a fancy battery, the no maintenance ones now come with like a 3 year warranty from memory, you can get them anywhere

Hey bro

I think you got a good deal, those diesel turbos are the bee's as far as I'm concerned 8)
Yeah wouldn't trust the gauge so much.... You'd be better off doing a litres filled/trip meter type calculation. That would probably involve running it until you get the fuel light though :-\

my father has a good diesel mechanic so I might get him to give it a once over and make sure everything is clean and up to standard.

I just bought a new battery, $177!!

Back on topic for a bit, I think you got a good price.

The fun part will be making it into a "Di16".  That will be a different project and certainly fast.

Welcome

What is a Di16?

heheheh

the conversion of choice for an 8 valve 205/309 is to put in the 16 valve variant - the Mi16 - hence, Di16 = Diesel 16v

don't worry, 8v turb diesels are cool enuf  :)

Is the 16 valve engine the HDi? or is there a better diesel engine?

Does the DTurbo have the 16v engine?

Its not too hard to get a bit more go out of these cars eh? Would it effect reliability/fuel economy much? Im looking at buying some peugeot mags at some stage, not a big fan of the hub caps

turbo + boost + wind more fuel into it = win.
fuel economy will of course suffer but if you're kind to it, it wont self destruct
