Saw the project thread on VASK. That thing is mad! No 106's for sale on here that I know of im afraid, but they do pop up every now and then.
What sort of 106 are you after? GTi, XSi, Rallye, Diesel spec :P ?

Yes the Polo is fun...

I have just put ITB's on it.. which has slightly reduced the low down torque but increases the top end to around 400 horses

But very easy to drive

I am looking for a 106 for the family shopping basket so nothing fancy

106's are to my mind a very balanced design and these things are important to me...

I had a 406 coupe for awhile and I loved the look.... but very hard to live with

Cheers

Welcome, 106's are great as a runaround. Find an Xsi - there are a few about.

Just been playing around on T/M and the 3 door 206 is remarkably similar in shape to the 106
Is there much difference?

Yes the 206 is slightly bigger and a fair bit heavier. They drive quite differently - 206 is fairly stable, 106 is quick and nimble in comparison. I'd recommend driving both to see which is preferred. Having driven both I personally prefer the 106 - a lot more involving to drive.

Another personal opinion.

I purchased a new Clio RS over a new 206 gti180 because it was a more involved drive. And have since modified it over the years of ownership.

Now that I have a 106 gti as well - it is even more fun than both of them. Not as fast in a straight line, but even more fun because it turns in so well with bascially zero weight.

I suspect however that a few well chosen mods on the 106 will have it just as quick as the Clio (which is quicker that a 180).

NB: I am a car whore, I have no brand prefference and simply buy what apeals to my senses and heart more for the dollars I have to spend.
04 Clio RS - daily
03 Hirsch Saab 9-5 Sportcombi - family wagon

97 106 Gti - road car currently in bits after offering itself up as a sacrifice to the race car.

Also test drove a 206 GTi180 and didnt like it. Felt too high and a bit too much body roll. Low amount of feeling that the car is an extension of the driver. Love my 106 though, love driving every second in it

Body roll Pat? Was the one you drove knackered? One that I/gf had was quite stiff & fairly well controlled in roll. I preferred it's setup to Pete's Clio 200 Cup actually.
You certainly feel more connected to the car driving a 106  8)   Miss mine a little already  :'(
