Hey guys. I used to frequent here a few years ago – a fun community. So I'm looking at an NZ new 207 gti with the cam chain changed under the recall and has low kms and is NZ new. I know these engines and a joint BMW pug venture and are damn awesome to drive. Tell me if they are worth buying or not and what are possible common things that go wrong?

Thanks in advance guys! Look forward to joining this community!

Hiya, welcome back then  8)

207 GTI is relatively unloved by Pug enthusiasts as it was seen as a bit of a 'soft' gti, but still a lot of fun I would imagine. Hopefully one of our in-trade members can give some perspective on maintenance issues.

I'm guessing that you're not in the market price range for a 208 GTI , but they certainly have had a lot of good reviews.

Cheers! Yeah all I have heard is that the timing chain is the issue but this one has it replaced and only has 51,000kms on the clock. I've read some good and bad about them but I think the bad is just based on the French car reliability stereotype. I owned a problem free Alfa 147 td for years with the dreaded selespeed and it was fine despite the stereotypes over that too.

Yes! And I still have that fantastic photo of your Clio chasing my 147. That was a fun cruise!

Hi Curtis.

There are a few imports here too, a mate is selling a GT, it doesn't have the GTI's seats but same mechanical, his is Superchipped and goes hard.

I've read on uk forums owners having a lot of issues. Is this just worst case scenario that only comes about in forums? The main issues stem from the recalled timing chains, no? So having that changed on a 51,000km old engine should be the business?

Hmm and I'd be keen on more of that GT too.

Im biting my lip here... but I was offered a Megane R26 in Liquid Yellow today.. so I jumped on Youtube and watched a "hot hatch of the year" shoot out from 2007-8.. out of 15 odd cars the Peugeot was dead last and hatted by everyone.

From what I can gather, the 207 is more a warm hatch.

Im catching up with the guy selling the GT tonight, will ask him for more info. It looks nice, silver with black leather etc.

From what I've read out of the box the 207 just doesn't have the same dynamic handling as other hot hatches, but the engine is a cracker. A good 8/10ths car, but not so good at 10/10ths (unless modified).

I don't have a Clio anymore, sold it last year.

Im hoping this R26 pans out, they are cool cars.

This is the GT that my mate is selling, he has used it as a daily driver for a few years and it goes well.
