Lived in the uk till 2002, had my fair share of euros there, but laterly I fell for jap cars as I did on arrival in nz.

Euro cars of interest included ford fiesta xr2, Volvo 850t5, BMW m3, chipped Renault 5 gt turbo. Brother had a Renault 21 turbo, mates had Peugeot 405 mi16 4x4, turbo technics tuned Renault 19 turbo and Peugeot 306 gti6.

Saw a couple of Peugeot 205 gtis with fastfrog stickers a while back.

The clio v6 I have has just been shipped in frm the uk.

My other car is a Jappo - Tommy Kaira B4 (Subaru Legacy B4RSK tuned by Tommy Kaira in Japan) reckon its around 320bhp :o

Welcome  :) love the Rennie Clio V6
Was it a recent import with any problems? the reason why I ask is I have seen them for sale around the 10,000 pound mark and at .47 - .48 cents to the pound makes good buying apart form the GST, shipping etc..... I reckon for $30k NZD thats money well spent. (I maybe wrong here)
Anyway enjoy the forum

As long as you didn't buy it from a dealer would you need to pay gst on it?

Yep, Customs would like to see prove off purchase. You could off course say you brought it for less  ;D

gtistee

think your able to bring your own car over duty free if your emigrating..
mate of mine came over and we talked about him using the allowance to bring an elise in for us.
Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity.

you need to have owned it for 6 or 12 months in the Uk (for personal use) then you are meant to pay tax if you sell it within the first year... you can get some really cheap 2002 m5's, non toyota elises and such at the moment.  petrol is 1.30 gbp

if I had the cash Id get myself a 2004 r32

Lifes hard, Its harder when your stupid.

Yep I'm from East Sussex originally.

Explored all the options regarding import, costs etc, you should allow about $10k for shipping, insurance, GST and other costs.

You cant get a Phase 2 in the UK for GBP10k only Phase 1's which I didnt want.

R32 Golfs are nice - but I wouldnt import one, the cost would outweigh the benefit and it wouldnt be that unique enough to hold its value here for long. Several other cars were in my sights for importing, though the V6 Clio was the most exclusive really.

I wouldnt mind bringing a Renault 5 over just for parts :)  Plus a VW Golf Rallye

What like this one? http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201101376489825/sort/priceasc/usedcars/model/5/make/renault/radius/1501/postcode/tn218nl/quicksearch/true/page/1?logcode=p

Not many around now - what with the scrappage scheme running in the UK, I reckon alot of cars went to the scrapyard ahead of their time, which will mean a shortage of runners - so prices may hold - like this one. Overpriced in the normal scheme of things. No Turbo Raiders for sale either!!

Golf Rallye expensive now - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-VOLKSWAGEN-GOLF-MK2-G60-RALLYE-SE-4X4-ORIG-UK-CAR-/110624259783?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item19c1b83ec7

Wow he actually lives in the same town I did in the UK, just read the spec - hmm, being 20 years old will not be subject to emissions and crash test safety, though being LHD may present an issue. Lets see, theoretically this would cost about NZ$23K to land it here.

This looks quite nice though - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1998-PEUGEOT-106-RALLYE-WHITE-/280610213319?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item4155ac0dc7
